Here are some additional information that you can feel free to pick and choose or ignore.
HORROR/DARK LIKE:
- psychological horror
- Noir/Dark Fantasy/Dystopia
- Canon Dark AU
- Alien Invasion in a sci-fi setting/AU
- ghost /supernatural creatures (that may or may not have mundane explanations)
- Isolation, cut off from home planet/base/team, etc

- Characters trapped inside a nightmare/Dream invasion
- Dependent on Enemy for Survival
- characters menaced by monsters/killers/aliens
- "And Then There Will Be None" fusion
- characters are captured and forced to fight /complete dangerous missions
- Cube Movie Fusion
- creepy castle
- Forest
- dungeons
- ruins
- Alien/Elder City
- Liminal Space
- darker or deeply shadowed art
- art that’s incongruously bright
- abandoned vehicles: spaceship, ships, cars. etc
- abandoned starbase/buildings/city
- characters who have to fight danger together
- hostile nature (jungle, desert, snow, etc)
- stranded on alien planets /alternate timeline /past
- Cosmic horror
- Characters are figuratively or literally monsters to outsiders
Hurt/Comfort tropes I like:
- character sacrificing themselves to protect others
- characters downplaying their injury/suffering so that others can get help first
- characters expect abuse but meet unexpected mercy instead
- stoic character revealing their secret weakness because of feverish dream/nightmare/hallucination/etc to friends/loved one and get comforted,
- injuries (accidental, from a battle, etc) that don't lead to permanent disability
- hypothermia and cuddling for warmth
- characters adapting to (often permanent) loss/rebuild their life with help
- skin hunger
- Pining angst that leads to requited love
- Proud characters insists that they don't need help and are tough enough to struggle with misery alone. The other characters understand their issues with showing vulnerability, and offer the comfort in subtle, deniable ways that are couched as being for their own peace of mind or just for the sake of convenience
- Physical comfort: bandaging wounds, hair washing, bath giving, supporting an injured character's weight, massage, etc
- Comfort food
